:: Lloyds TSB Islamic Financial Services Launch

Lloyds TSB has teamed up with Akwan Strategic Media to launch a current account that is compliant with Islamic law aimed at the UK's two million Muslims. The account has been designed to comply fully with Islamic law, or Shariah, which forbids the payment and receipt of interest, or Riba. As such, the account will not pay interest on credit balances or have an overdraft facility. The funds held by the bank on all Shariah-compliant accounts will also be held according to Islamic law. In order to ensure the current account is fully compliant with Islamic law, Lloyds TSB has consulted a board of Islamic scholars, who have advised on all aspects of Islamic finance law.
